March – the third month of the year containing 31 days. The month of March Madness. The month of green, gold, luck & leprechauns, otherwise known as St. Patrick’s Day. The month that Spring arrives! Most importantly, the month where, after the unseasonably mild February we had, we have CABIN FEVER!
Who needs out of the house? I know I’m ready! Here are some great things to do throughout the month of March, in + around Genesee County.
Mom’s Night Out/Date Night
I’m going to be selfish and start with time on the town for us mamas:
Lush with a Brush at Captains Quarters. Paint a “Beacon Beach” while sipping on a fruity drink, dreaming of Summer from 6:30p – 8:30p!
Lush with a Brush at Bubba O’Malley’s. Hit the town with your gal pals tonight from 6:30 – 8:30 pm and paint a 16×20 Owl canvas with your favorite cocktail in hand!
St. Paddy’s Beer Fest and 1/2K Draft Dash at the Flint Farmers Market. This party will feature beer, live entertainment and Irish themed food, all kicked off by the highly anticipated and dramatic FUN 1/2K Draft Dash! Is running not your thing? Don’t worry, you CAN do this one! Run all 1,640 feet and receive a full beer at the finish line, not to mention a t-shirt, pint glass and 10-20oz sample tickets. An Evening of Wine & Roses at the Flint Institute of Arts. This is an annual fundraising effort for the FIA and the Junior League of Flint. Enjoy a night of wine tasting provided by Flint’s popular wine bar, Cork on Saginaw. Let’s not forget the fanfare of delicious hors d’oeuvres and desserts from area restaurants, music and the very popular Wine Pull Raffle.

The month of March offers so many activities at various branches of the Genesee District Library. I’ll highlight some of my favorites that we are looking forward to, but to see the entire calendar, click here! Home Depot Kids Workshop at area Home Depots. From 9am – 12pm, join this hands-on workshop where you and your child(ren) can build! Kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron and a commemorative pin!
Young Adult Book Club at Genesee District Library, Montrose-Jennings Branch. Reading is so important! The book club is sure to help the young adult in your home continue that love!
Kindermusik at Faith. This is a FREE preview class being offered on Thursday, March 9th. Ages birth to 7 years old are welcome. Spots are limited so make sure to reach out and reserve your spot today!
St. Patrick’s Day Party at Genesee District Library, Davison Branch. Celebrate luck, leprechauns and the color green at this event! Your kids are sure to have a lucky good time at this party, decorating cookies included! RSVP today so you don’t miss out!
Sixth Annual Lego Competition and Exhibition at the Flint Institute of Arts. This a free, one-day event for the Lego enthusiast in your life, ages K-12. Don’t have a Lego enthusiast that is interested in entering the competition? This is still an excellent excuse to leave the house and go to the FIA to see the talent within Genesee County!
Ceramics & Snacks: Handmade Pottery Show & Local Food Tasting at Yellow Dog Marketplace. This is a free admission event to join Yellow Dog Marketplace and Flint Handmade for a lovely afternoon of shopping and delicious food tasting!
Story Time with Miss Sandy at Genesee District Library, Clio Branch. Join Miss Sandy for stories, songs and fun! Browse the library with your little one(s) after to find the perfect book to check out for bedtime reading.

Family Math Night at UM-Flint. Family Math Night is an opportunity for you and your children to have fun together while learning math! Lots of activities, puzzles and games for students K-6. This event is free and open to the public, compliments of the University of Michigan-Flint Mathematics Department. Resources, door prizes and pizza provided!
Baby Steps with Miss Katie
Genesee District Library, Flushing Branch. Bring your babies, ages 0 – 24 months, to this fun morning with Miss Katie! Explore and learn with rhythm, rhymes, toys, music and books!

Genesee County also has some pretty awesome events happening for the whole family that include a cost to participate. Check out some of the neat things going on below!
Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition at the Sloan Museum. Don’t forget to check out this ongoing event presented at the Sloan Museum! View more than one hundred authentic artifacts, recreations of actual rooms aboard the ship, and share in the dramatic personal stories of Titanic’s passengers and crew. Live actors stroll throughout the exhibit as well, further enhancing the experience. So much history to see and stories to be told!
Sink or Float: Titanic STEM Saturday’s at Sloan Museum. Have fun learning while investigating. Make predictions and find out which objects will float and which will sink. Cost of this class includes a visit to Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition. Advanced registration is required, so don’t delay!
SLPR Mother-Son Dance at Southern Lakes Parks and Recreation. Mamas, enjoy a night on the town with your special little guy! Enjoy dancing the night away with memories that will last a lifetime! Tickets are not sold at the door, so make sure you register by the deadline so you don’t miss this night out!
