After being stuck inside all winter, we’re here to tell you that Spring is around the corner! And with warmer weather and the anticipation of our children’s last day of school comes summer vacation. Have you had a moment to sit down and solidify your summer plans to keep the kids busy yet? With sunshine quickly approaching, we couldn’t be more excited to launch our annual Summer Camp Guide! We’re moms that understand the importance of summer camp to many families in + around Genesee County. GCMB’s goal is to make your life a little easier by sharing a list of summer camps that you may want to learn a little more about. We have some wonderful and enriching programs just waiting for your child this summer!

YMCA Camp Nissokone

Sparkling waters, breathtaking sunsets, trails leading to extraordinary adventure.  Camp Nissokone is northern Michigan’s premier overnight camping destination for kids. One of Michigan’s longest-running summer camps, with more than 100 years of experience, ensuring your child will have a positive camp experience. Genesee County Parks Summer Playground Programs

Genesee County Parks’ FREE summer playground and lunch program is back!  Kids ages 4-18, all abilities, can drop in daily for crafts, gardening, nature, games and all kinds of fun stuff!   Pre-registration not required, but parents/guardians must complete a release form before kids can participate.

Multiple Park Locations: Bluebell Beach, Pavilion 1.  Davison Roadside Park, Pavilion.  Flushing County Park, Pavilion 1.  Max Brandon Park, Pavilion 2, near MLK and Stewart Ave.  McKinley Park, Vista Center Area

4-H Camp Kidwell

4-H Camp Kidwell is set on beautiful Eagle Lake in Bloomingdale, Michigan. Through safe, fun and exciting  overnight and day camp programs children learn about themselves and explore nature.  All the fun includes activities like horseback riding, rock climbing, water trampoline, canoeing, archery and more.  Their programs are designed for children ages 4-16.  Sessions run weekly, Sunday through Friday.

Camp Lu Lay Lea

Camp Lu Lay Lea is a Christian summer camp now entering its 69th summer of operation, open to all boys and girls ages 8-14. Lu Lay Lea is located on picturesque Henderson Lake in one of the state’s loveliest regions, with abundant trees and foliage providing a gorgeous backdrop for camp activity. They offer seven one-week sessions, each accommodating up to 86 campers per week (Sunday through Saturday). Young people need positive, constructive, interesting and challenging things to do with their time. Camp Lu Lay Lea structures its schedule to provide these opportunities along with plenty of fun. Campers play, learn, develop their creativity, strengthen their faith in a Christian environment, create new friendships, and grow, all while being surrounded by the charming elegance of Northern Michigan. They strive to give campers an unforgettable summer experience, along with growing their relationship with Jesus Christ.

Sloan Museum and Longway Planetarium

The 2017 summer camps and programs for Sloan Museum and Longway Planetarium are here! Your child will be able touch, see, hear, smell and taste what science or history is really all about. Using simple, real world science techniques that allow even the youngest campers to enjoy learning about their environment. This summer Sloan Museum and Longway Planetarium have more than 40 science, history, and geography activities for kids age 4 through 8th grade. Students will create, build and assemble a variety of take-home projects while exploring how science and history affects the world around us. Van Buren Youth Camp

Van Buren Youth Camp is a non-profit, co-ed, residential summer camp program serving youth ages 6-18. The camp is located on Great Bear Lake in Bloomingdale, Michigan on 100 acres of deciduous woodlands with wetland trails, a football field and an outdoor camping area. Their Leadership Workshop was founded in 1952 and is the longest continuously running Leadership program in the state of Michigan.  Van Buren’s program and camp goals focus on building self esteem, teaching leadership and community service, good citizenship, 21st Century skills and fostering lifelong friendships. Campers play a role in every aspect of the program from planning and implementing various parts of the day, to brain storming future programs and promotions, planning the Junior Leadership week, and evaluation of facilities and activities.  No technology rules for campers help their youth learn to communicate more effectively, develop an appreciation of the outdoors and understand their connection to the world they live in.

A Joyful Noise Music Studio

A Joyful Noise Music Studio is excited to share the wonderful world of music with your children in the 2017 summer months. They are pleased to offer a variety of summer music camps for students between the ages of 18 months and 18 years old. Their unique and educational music programs have been developed with a deeply rooted passion to nurture and inspire every student’s potential for growth in a positive environment. McCracken Basketball Camp

The McCracken Basketball Camp is beginning its 55th summer of offering quality, instructional basketball camps to boys and girls, ages 7 to 18. They work with players of all skill levels and abilities, and over 125,000 have gone through their camp program.  McCracken offers many camp options: overnight camps, extended day camps (9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.) and day camps (9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.).  Group and sibling discounts are available.

Pretty Pony Pastures

Hooked on Horses gives your horse-crazy child a chance to work with the horses on the ground as well as the saddle. Each day consists of three sessions that includes one riding lesson, one horse related, hands-on learning activity, and one horse-centered craft. Riders must be at least 6 years old and can ride independently. Riders are grouped by experience and all activities and the riding lesson are based on the rider’s ability and skill levels based on Pony Club standards. Attendance is capped at 12 riders so there are only four riders at a time. Everyone gets more attention and a chance to better develop their skills. Select one, two, or all three sessions.
